5.3.7 Martian Speedster

This is the start of a 4 week project - For Day 1 you need to:

Step 1) ***Download*** a copy of 5.3.7 MartianSpeedsterDesignFabrication into your Download folder - using the Google Forms version messes up all of the tables and images for some reason. You will need to drag this Word document into your Google Drive once it has been completed, but you will need to save it onto your computer at the end of each class. ***Hit Ctrl+S to save, Word does not save automatically***

Step 2) Read the first 4 pages of instructions so you will have an overview of everything we are going to be doing over the next few weeks.

Step 3) Read the first 4 pages a second time, this time confirming the numbers in the Martian Speedster Specifications Sheet as you go. You are just looking at the "required" specifications as you will not know the actual measurements until you actually build it.

Step 4) Research and draw sketches on paper to get ready for the sketching software on your computer.

For Day 2, you need to have completed your 3 drawings:

For Day 3, this is how you put your speedster into Inventor:

This is how you add a printer:

For Day 4, this is how you print out your speedster:

For Day 5, this is how you put your printout onto your speedster:

Are you ready for the wood shop?

DO NOT CUT within 1/4" of any part of your air hole or either of your axle holes.  This will leave you room to sand down to minimum specifications without as much risk of disabling your own speedster.

PLEASE THINK THROUGH EACH CUT CAREFULLY BEFORE YOU CUT - YOU CANNOT UNCUT WOOD

1.5.9 Martian Habitat Design

Over the next few days, You will be using Autodesk Inventor Professional 2016 to create a 12 foot by 18 foot structure and will fill it with your furniture and those created by other students as an assembly to represent what your furnished habitat will look like on Mars. You will then create a paper drawing of the best two angles of your entire assembled habitat and the three students that design the best habitats by the start of class on Friday will be allowed to 3d print a scale model of their design.

You will submit your .dwg file to Canvas before Friday for your paperwork grade for the week.

For PDF instructions, please click here

1.5.6 Furniture Design (part 2)

Things that we should have already done in 1.2.3.P Furniture Design:

Each person researched and drew 3 sketches of ideas for chairs OR tables with storage

You evaluated all sketches using criteria listed on your paperwork.  (check the 1.2.3. paperwork that you already turned in)

What you are going to do now -

Step 1) Using Inventor, you are going to design the highest scoring idea as a life-size 3d model.  If you cannot decide upon a "best" idea you can either come up with a new idea or combine pieces from your previous ideas into a new creation.

Step 2) Create an Assembly of all of the parts for your furniture. At this point, you can go into "Tools" and adjust your materials and appearance to make it look as cool as possible.

Step 3) Export your finished Assembly as a CAD (.STL) file. Drag that from your documents to a flash drive and give it to your teacher to be converted into a Makerbot file.

Step 4) 3d print a 3d model of your furniture.

Step 5) Submit your .STL file into Canvas to be graded

There is no paperwork for this project, you will upload your .STL file when you are completely done.
You must have your .stl file finished before the start of class on Friday or you will not be allowed to 3d print your creations.

DO NOT GO TO THE NEXT STEP UNTIL YOU HAVE CREATED YOUR 3 PARTS

Step 3) Watch the video below on Contraints in an Assembly.
Step 4) Follow the worksheet directions to create a Pegboard Assembly. Make sure that in your finished product you can move the round peg and square peg and they are always constrained to the round hole and the square hole.
Step 5 Create a Triangular Peg and add a triangular hole to your original pegboard sketch.
Step 6) Create a Mallet Head and Handle for use with your Pegboard Toy.
Step 7) Put them all together in one assembly and show to your teacher for final inspection.
